Largely out of boredom, I have been looking for some new shoes which would be both well suited to driving, and normal looking enough to wear on a regular basis. This has proven to be quite difficult. The majority of the dedicated driving shoes I encountered would make me look incredibly pretentious (BMW, Porsche and Ferrari branded shoes), or like a Ken Block wannabe. Consequently, any suggestions for normal shoes which work well for driving would be appreciated.
*The unrelated pictures are of an absolutely absurd car I encountered on the Snake. It was featured on a Tuned video a couple years ago, though it had a roof at the time.

Oh fuck, it's that Lotus. That dude is nuts. And the unbranded puma's are your best bet to be honest. If you have wider feet than any slip on shoe will probably work. And remember, Senna rocked loafers

Puma has a line of "Race Cat" and "Drift Cat" shoes. They are unassuming enough to wear every day, yet are great when stepping on pedals.

easy, Puma Speed Cat
many colours, but you should get blue suede. they are thin, have tyre tread design on the bottom, and a sole that curves up the back because you rest on your heels a lot when you drive. look good for walking around in so daily driver perfect :D

A good pair of Sperry Topsiders. Full-foot protection, but relatively thinly-soled so you can still feel the pedals with your feet.

That's basically the same reaction I had.
It was an Exige at some point and it has crazy power. I never knew they chopped the top though - that's relatively new. I like my Exiges with the hardtop - they shoulda just started with a 2-Eleven if they wanted a topless car.

Either those Pumas that MonkeyPuzzle mentioned, or my personal favorite, the Adidas Samba Spezial. How's that for a name? haha
They pretty much come out of the box perfectly broken in and they're a DREAM to drive with.

Yes, that's the one. The owner was awesome, he said it currently makes upwards of 600 hp at the wheels and weighs right around 2,000 pounds. The seats each weigh about 3 pounds. Crazy car.
And thanks for the suggestion, I'll check those out

For feel, you might try out Merrell's "glove" series, or I really like the VivoBarefoot shoes. Made to give a barefoot feel while walking about, they have super thin soles that really communicate, and they even make some pretty normal styles.

Sperrys. You can wear them to dinner with the wife or to take the trash out. No need to wear socks with them either. Thin soled but still offer some protection.

I don't have the widest range of experience, but the best 'ordinary' shoes I've ever driven in are Converse All Stars. They're pretty much perfect for it. Thin soles, for plenty of feedback, and they're only a tiny bit wider than your feet—which helps a lot, when your pedals are as cramped as mine:
(It's cleaner now, I promise!)

Eh, there's a bit of an image connotation that goes along with them, but I've been surprised by how much more I like driving in mine than any other shoes I have.
I'm a fan of the original-style, plain as can be leather Sperrys. It's easier to get the nasty foot-stank smell out of them than their canvas counterparts, but more importantly, they break in really nicely and get nice and soft and comfort to your foot after a while. I find them (the leather versions) to be more durable as well.

I'm not sure... I happened into my first pair by chance. Found the only pair in the store at a DSW, and they were 75% off. I needed some slipper like shoes I could take through the airport, so I bought them. And then bought another pair just like them when I wore holes in the soles. I think you can get them through Zappos, so they would cover return shipping, and I think you can check the Vivo site for retailers.

Very different. They're not leather like normal Sambas, so they're ridiculously comfortable the first time you wear them. They break in super quick and they're really flexy so its easy to heel-toe and what not in them. I had no idea they were that great to drive in until the first time I did it. I usually wear vans when I drive, but these are exponentially better.

I know they're not a brand typically associated with driving shoes, but one of the best pairs I've ever owned was made by Asics. They don't make that particular style anymore, but they do offer a couple that are very similar and look like they'd be fantastic:
The Gel-Fortius TR , which run about $90 but are supremely comfortable with very good pedal feel.
Or, if you're like me and that's too much money for you, they also have the Tokutens, picture in black, which are about $65 (though they can be found cheaper elsewhere) and are extremely supple and comfortable, but with a slightly thicker sole and no rounded heel.

Sperry's are a good option. I actually prefer loafers, however. If it's good enough for Senna, it's good enough for me! Cole Haan Gunnison's are also really good. Though I've noticed that my sartorial persuasions tend to be fairly different than the typical gear head (not that that is either a good or a bad thing... It simply is and a personal observation at that).

I just got some Nike Lunarglide 5 shoes that are beyond excellent for driving, and walking. I think they just stopped making them though, so now there's the Lunarglide 6 , and the best part is you can customize them for free.
But for driving they are excellent, they're super light, so you can feel everything you're doing, which is nice when you're driving a manual and heel-toeing.
And when you get out of the car they offer excellent support and I can walk around in them all day without a problem.
And on on your pictures, which road is "the snake?" I live in Ventura (one town south of Santa Barbara), so I'm not super familiar with all the names, I only know Yerba Buena, Mulholland Highway, and Kanan.

I see the benefits of that, and for what it's worth I prefer driving barefoot solely for the feel. In terms of martial arts, to each their own I guess? The paths are many though the goal is singular. My two cents would be practicing in footwear (martial arts/driving) is more practical, rarely will one be able to remove their footwear in an altercation.
